The Importance of Liver Detox and Cleanse (And Why You NEED One)

You know the feeling – you wake up after a night out and your head is pounding, your stomach is queasy, and you just feel awful. You reach for the Advil and vow to never drink again. But then, a few days later, you’re out with friends and before you know it, you’ve had a few drinks. And so the cycle begins anew. If this sounds familiar, it’s time for a liver detox.

We have five organs of detoxification:

  1. The liver
  2. The skin
  3. The kidneys
  4. The lungs
  5. The gut

For more than 80% of the process, our liver is responsible for detoxifying our blood. When it becomes overloaded, it cannot do its job properly. This can lead to a variety of health problems. A detox can help cleanse the liver and restore its function, and we can expect to see improved energy levels, better digestion, and a reduction of inflammation.

Our liver goes through phase one and phase two of detoxification. Certain nutrients are needed to help in facilitating this. Then, the kidneys can get rid of the toxins that you’ve accumulated.

Did you know that a human being can have up to 700 toxins in the blood?

When a baby is born, he already has 200 plus toxins. We are constantly exposed to toxins without knowing it. When we eat food, when we drink water, when we put chemicals in our body or from the environment, we are constantly exposed. When your toxic load is really high, your liver is not able to do its job properly.

The liver is a busy organ. It sieves the blood to filter out toxins. It also stores fat for energy purposes if necessary. Eating healthy foods will help you keep your body clean and free from any unnecessary clutter. Not mainly because they’re good with their nutritious properties, but also due to how detoxifying they can be on such an important plumbing system in our bodies.

The first thing that you should really do is eliminate all inflammatory foods. Here are some in a list:

  • dairy
  • gluten
  • soy
  • corn
  • shellfish
  • caffeine
  • legumes except green beans.
  •  all grains

Doing this elimination process is a good start. You can then follow through by doing a detox which includes high protein shakes and nutrients like B vitamins, A vitamins, selenium, and zinc. It’s a very simple way to do it, but yes, it requires commitment.

When you detox, not only do your body and mind benefit from the healthful benefits of a cleanse but there is also an increase in energy levels. You’ll need this extra boost because after weight loss has occurred-you’ll continue eating as before!

Another reason to consider detox is for your hormone balancing. Remember that your hormones go to your liver where they get broken down. You don’t want any toxic end product to those hormones to cause cancer. When you do a detox, your hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and even thyroid, to name a few) also are broken down more effectively and they produce good results.
